Session #5 Mohammad Alaffasi
Date: October
3, 2017
Topic/Skill:
Grammar: -ing verbs and sentence structure
During this
particular tutoring session, we worked on the formation of sentences and the
appropriate endings of verbs in particular cases. I have noticed that Mohammad
is very math and formula motivated and is able to compute or write a sentence
if he is presented with example structures. This is a great quality to have for
a skill such as grammar, but he definitely struggles more with speaking and
conversing. He and I shared a similar struggle in second language acquisition.
It is difficult to speak when you are unsure if what you are saying is correct.
At the end of the day, it does not matter, as long as you are improving. I
reminded him that just like grammar, the more you practice the formulas, the
better you will get with speaking over time if you continue to TRY. He had
little trouble with his grammar packet homework, but I went through it with him
to make sure he understood a few of the irregular examples or exceptions to the
rule.
