I recently uploaded my who am I video to group 7 in Ramin’s cultural voicethread program. I really enjoyed deciding which photos to upload and what to talk about in the brief amount of time I had for the comment/audio portion. I received comments back from a few of the students and one of the students was particularly interested in Siesta Key Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the US where I grew up. I created a different video including photos of dolphins, parasailing, and the famous sand castle competition that takes place at Siesta each November.

Cultural/Linguistic Topics Learned:

I really enjoyed thinking about touristy and typical landmarks or activities to do on Siesta because it is not something I often think about because I am so familiar with the beach in general. In rebuttal to that video, I asked her to share with me a famous or local tradition in their specific city in Vietnam. I am really enjoying the VoiceThread experience so far.

Date: Oct. 18 Location: Sabal Palm Elementary Topic/Skill: Reading Student: Jaques Kilozo Level: 1st grade For today's session with Jaques, I sat down to help him with a class activity wherein he had to cut out shapes of animals and glue them to a venn diagram stating whether they lived in the water, on land, or both. This was a good chance to work on having him identify things out loud in English, so with each animal I had him tell me out loud the name, and had him repeat it until it was said at a decent volume, as his biggest concern from his teacher is that he doesn't speak much, and when he does, he whispers. Then, did a little listening exercise where I read to him for a little bit until a fire drill cut our session a bit short.

Tutoring Session #11-16 Date: Spring 2018 Topic/Skill: IMC Program At the end of the fall semester, my fall conversation partner Ailin, reached out to me about her acceptance into the IMC Master’s program. I am currently a second semester student in the IMC program. This truly has made this tutoring and conversation partner experience come together because I can now help Ailin apply her English skills to the classroom. For the spring 2018 semester, we both share a Research Methods course. Ailin expressed her anxiety about the lecture style course. Our professor is 70 years old and typically speaks in a lower tone of voice. Additionally, he is from Kentucky and has a relatively strong southern accent. Since the start of the semester I have compared my notes with Ailin’s to fill in any gaps of confusion she may have. Date / Time : 10/23/17  12:15pm Location : CIES Centre Topic / Skill : Writing and preliminary issues to writing Feedback provided to the Tutee : I met Hani while I was eating lunch yesterday at the CIES centre. We struck up a conversation on Tallahassee and then asked if I could possibly answer some questions on writing. He asked what are the best ways to improve his writing and I replied it depended on what specifically he would like to improve. His biggest issues that he was struggling with was the speed of writing and spelling errors. I suggested taking timed writing exercises by which he could practice spelling and writing as quickly as possible. Lessons learned : I learned that our alphabet is truly not as easy as it looks. I never really thought about how hard our alphabet is to understand and to write. I didn't really think about it as well until he handed his phone to me to put in my contact information.
