Activity: Vocab Review and Listening Activity
When I was observing Angels class and former TEFL student was interning and teaching. In the beginning of the class Ken went over a lot of vocabulary. The way he taught the vocabulary was through competitive games. I could tell that he really knew and understood this class because they were very into the games and from what I could tell a very competitive class. They played a slap vocabulary game where the vocabulary words were written on the board randomly and a person from each team had to go to the board. Ken would read the definition of a vocabulary word out loud and then the student had to slap the vocabulary word that they thought went with the definition. The students got really into it and were yelling and cheering their teammates on. After this game Ken split the class into groups of three and gave them three vocabulary words that were somewhat related to each other for the students to put into sentences that went together. This activity wasn’t very competitive but the students still enjoyed it. After the class had gone over all of the vocabulary which took about 35 minutes, Ken played an audio lecture for the students to listen to that used the vocabulary words. The students then had to complete a worksheet corresponding to the lecture. They had about five minutes after to go over it with their classmates at the end of the lesson. Ken then collected the worksheet at the end of the class. Angel was observing Ken the entire time that he was teaching not saying anything and when the students asked him something he would help them but it was obvious that Ken knew what he was doing with the class. It was a very fun class to observe.
