Jackie Sirianni -- Voice Thread Activity/Final Tutoring Hours
I think this activity was a really great idea and pretty fun to make. I enjoyed getting to talk about who I am and learn about the students in Vietnam, especially when discovering both our similarities and differences. I'm sure making this clip will not only be helpful in having the knowledge of this new technology platform for future students, but also when thinking about how we will introduce ourselves to our new students once we go overseas. I found the idea of giving feedback on their English a little awkward at first considering I've never met or spoken to these students before. To combat this awkwardness, I first gave a general positive comment on one of the student's video, expressing enjoyment of her video and relating to some of the things she had said. Once she had responded to that, I went ahead and provided feedback on one mistake that I heard in the video, prefacing it with a positive comment about her pronunciation. This will definitely transfer over into teaching because of the importance of building rapport with the students before going directly into direction and feedback in order for the students to be able to relate and respect you and provide a positive and comfortable learning environment/culture. There weren't many student videos yet in the time of this final blog post, but I look forward to watching more of them and responding to comments on my own video.
