Session #3: Mohammad Alaffasi
Date: September 28, 2017
Location: CIES
Topic/Skill:
In this session Mohammad brought some of his grammar
homework to work on together. The fundamental goal in most of the exercises
were deciphering the difference between I am, you are, he/she/it is, we are,
and they are. He was having trouble conjugating a few of the sentences so I
pulled up a conjugating website that visually displayed the present form of “to
be” in a chart. He quickly caught on to the formula and was able complete the
rest of the sentences on his own. Once we finished the exercises, we went back
and reviewed for comprehension. He was able to learn new words such as
instructor as a synonym for teacher. Every time we meet I choose a few words
from his homework to memorize the pronunciation and meaning of the word. At the
beginning of our sessions he proudly says and explains those few words from our
last session. This has been a really effective way of “testing” Mohammad, but
also boosting his confidence in learning.
