Jackie Sirianni - CP #6
FSU campus/SLC
October 9, 7-8 pm
Topics discussed: Abdulrahman and I met up at the SLC to
watch a movie they were playing, but we decided to leave early because he wasn’t
very interested in it—it was a Spanish language documentary about an American
singer who gained fame in South America, and he found it a bit difficult to
follow. Instead we just walked around campus for a bit and talked about what’s
been going on in our lives recently.
Cultural/Linguistic Topics: We talked about the differences
in family culture, particularly why Americans tend to move out of their parents’
house while they go to school or turn 18 even if they live in the same city. We
also taught each other the figurative meaning of the word “cold” in each other’s
languages: in the U.S., we say someone is cold if they are mean or emotionless,
where as in Saudi, they use it to describe someone who is patient and kind.
