Topics Discussed: This was Abdulrahman and I’s second
meeting. We talked about our weeks and how our classes have been going, specifically
about how he’s trying to think of a survey topic for his class assignment—his
idea was to survey FSU students on what their thoughts about Saudi Arabia and the
Middle East in general were. He said he’s been struggling this session to find
the motivation to study, playing more than working.
Cultural/Linguistic Topics Discussed: Every once
in a while, when Abdulrahman would make a mistake or was unsure of how to say
something, we would discuss that topic, such as noun clauses and
countable/non-countable nouns—he said there were “too much dogs” rather than “too
many dogs” (which he’s not a fan of) when he went to Food Truck Thursday. Abdulrahman
is definitely more careful in his speech—he seems to try harder to say things
correctly or rather will be less likely to say something incorrect—than my
other tutees/conversation partners. We planned our next meeting to go see a film
at the SLC, and I told him I would bring my small dog next time to help him get
over his fear.
