Ford Brodeur TS #6
Date/Time : 10/3/17 7pm
Location: Outside of Strozier Library
Topic/Skill : Prefixes/suffixes, vocabulary, learning context
Feedback provided to the tutee : We started our lesson by doing context and what makes up context clues. I wrote out a sample sentence with a word he did not know (enormous). I wrote good and descriptive adjectives in the sentence in order for him to have enough material to use context clues. He was very easily able to understand context clues and how it worked. After the context clues, we worked on suffixes/prefixes. I made sure to write out the examples that his teacher expected him to know. Some of the prefixes and suffixes included : pre, re, un, -ful, -less. He really understood it after several example sentences and after I broke it down. After the suffixes and prefixes, we then worked on vocabulary. Some of the vocabulary that he did not know was bully, peer pressure, and to critic. I just don't think he used these words in his daily vernacular and thus it did not make sense to him. After rewording it these words into other synonyms, he was able to fully understand these vocabulary words much easier.
Lesson(s) learned about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned : I learned that Talal was very good student. English came very easy to him. He never was frustrated or angry that he did not understand something. He would be vocal that he did not understand something and then would make sure to ask questions.
