Date/Time : 10/1/17 5:15pm
Location : CIES Centre
Topic/Skill : Auxiliary usage of Do/does and past tense verbs

Feedback provided to the Tutee : I met with Valentina in the CIES conference room for our session. Valentina did not have a good foundation of grammar in English so she resorted to Spanish a lot of the time to try to make herself more communicative. I tried telling her to use more English but it was to no avail. I explained all the instructions and definitions/examples in English so I hoped that it helped. Valentina, as a foundations level student, had a lot of questions on "do". I explained with her with a diagram of the word "do". I proceeded to explain that "do" had several different forms (do, does, done, did). I worked out some examples on paper on how it could work differently in sentences. For an example, I wrote "Did you know what that is?" , "He was done with the test", and "Can you do this for me?". I explained to the best of my abilities as for what "do" was and what it means. We worked on past tense verbs such as buy-bought and run-ran. I did a matching activity for that and she excelled at it.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned : I learned that everyone's skill level is very different. Valentina's skill level, at foundations, really inhibited her to be communicative. It was really hard to understand the questions she was asking and how to give feedback effectively.
