Ford Brodeur TS #4
Date/Time : 10/2/17 12:00pm
Location : CIES Centre
Topic / Skill : Presentation Organisation and Listening
Feedback provided to the Tutee: So I went into the computer lab where the tutoring zone is usually set up and a student asked if I could help her with her presentation. Her name was Mardioli and she was working on her speaking presentation. Her questions mainly pertained to the organisation of the presentation paper (if it made sense) and we mostly focused on the listening part of the survey for the presentation. Mardioli had to go out and interview people on FSU's campus on their opinions of whether or not they should have school uniforms or not. Mardioli would then proceed to tape their responses via tape-recorder. I sat with her for most of the tutoring session and worked out what the people were saying and what the main idea of the answer was. I'd help try to formulate the ideas with her and then she would rewrite them in her own words. After she re-wrote them, we would then look back over it and then make sure it made grammatical sense.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned : I learned that the tutee was very un-confident in her abilities. She expressed that notion to me and was worried that this semester was going way too fast for her (due to the hurricane). She was glad I was able to help with her presentation because she said tutors gave her a fresh set of eyes for the problems. I agree with her on this because by having someone else there, they can help you with your pronunciation and listening.
