Cultural/ Linguistic Topics learned: I met with Abdulaziz at the Starbucks on Tennessee street because his apartment is very close to there. We discussed what we did that day and how our classes are going. I am in a class called Politics of the Middle East and I asked Abdulaziz what he thought of Hezbollah (a civil society group in Lebanon). I was not sure whether or not Abdulaziz would have anything to say on it because he is from Saudi Arabia. Abdulaziz told me that he does not really watch the news and he just focuses on day to day life. After discussing our school topics, we changed the subject to food. I asked him what his favourite thing to eat in Saudi Arabia. He said it varied, but he said he really enjoyed eating meat (lamb, fish, cow, and not pork). I began to ask him what restaurants he enjoyed in Tallahassee. Abdulaziz began to point out the local restaurants that he enjoyed. He really likes Zoes because the food type is similar to Saudi Arabian cuisine. I then recommend that he should go to Moody's hummus bar on Ocala due to the Mediterranean cuisine.

Date: Oct. 18 Location: Sabal Palm Elementary Topic/Skill: Reading Student: Jaques Kilozo Level: 1st grade For today's session with Jaques, I sat down to help him with a class activity wherein he had to cut out shapes of animals and glue them to a venn diagram stating whether they lived in the water, on land, or both. This was a good chance to work on having him identify things out loud in English, so with each animal I had him tell me out loud the name, and had him repeat it until it was said at a decent volume, as his biggest concern from his teacher is that he doesn't speak much, and when he does, he whispers. Then, did a little listening exercise where I read to him for a little bit until a fire drill cut our session a bit short.

Tutoring Session #11-16 Date: Spring 2018 Topic/Skill: IMC Program At the end of the fall semester, my fall conversation partner Ailin, reached out to me about her acceptance into the IMC Master’s program. I am currently a second semester student in the IMC program. This truly has made this tutoring and conversation partner experience come together because I can now help Ailin apply her English skills to the classroom. For the spring 2018 semester, we both share a Research Methods course. Ailin expressed her anxiety about the lecture style course. Our professor is 70 years old and typically speaks in a lower tone of voice. Additionally, he is from Kentucky and has a relatively strong southern accent. Since the start of the semester I have compared my notes with Ailin’s to fill in any gaps of confusion she may have. Date / Time : 10/23/17  12:15pm Location : CIES Centre Topic / Skill : Writing and preliminary issues to writing Feedback provided to the Tutee : I met Hani while I was eating lunch yesterday at the CIES centre. We struck up a conversation on Tallahassee and then asked if I could possibly answer some questions on writing. He asked what are the best ways to improve his writing and I replied it depended on what specifically he would like to improve. His biggest issues that he was struggling with was the speed of writing and spelling errors. I suggested taking timed writing exercises by which he could practice spelling and writing as quickly as possible. Lessons learned : I learned that our alphabet is truly not as easy as it looks. I never really thought about how hard our alphabet is to understand and to write. I didn't really think about it as well until he handed his phone to me to put in my contact information.
