CO #3
Date/Time: September 21st
10:00 am
Topic/Skill:
Composition/Brainstorming/Holidays
Teacher Presentation:
Mr. Pelt began the class with a writing journal with the question “Who is your
role model?” He told me this journal is
only for the students to see and he would not grade them. There was soft music playing and he walked
around and looked to see how long their paragraphs were. Then he reminded them that there was a quiz
on brainstorming that day. They
practiced brainstorming on holidays for 20 minutes before the quiz. The quiz included two topics and the students
had about 10 minutes to brainstorm about them and write as many things down as
they could.
Material: Whiteboard,
Computer with speakers, paper
Student
Participation: The students all
participated in the brainstorming activity before the quiz. This activity got them excited about
brainstorming because it was fast paced and fun to talk about.
Feedback Provided:
Feedback was provided for the students during the brainstorming activity. The students rarely had problems speaking or
explaining what they were thinking.
Lesson(s) on teaching
you learned: This class helped me learn
how using cultural holidays to teach is not very difficult and it can create
interesting discussions during class.
Including culture into a lesson can make the class much more
enjoyable.
