Topic/Skill: Quiz on Present
progressive
Teacher
Presentation: Ms. Ciapetta did not know
I was coming on this day but let me stay anyway. She was giving an oral open book quiz to the
students on present progressive. Each
student orally produced around fifteen sentences talking about their
family. Since it was a quiz she could
not correct them on the spot but she did write down on an excel sheet if the
got anything wrong while speaking so that she would remember what their grade
would be. After the quiz, which took up
about half the class, the students got in to groups of two and reviewed the
quiz material with each other. They went
through an exercise in their workbook and basically did the quiz again but Ms.
Ciapetta corrected some of the students after they finished their
sentence. This helped the students
understand where their errors were.
Material: Computer with
excel, projector, workbooks
Student
participation: The students all spoke
for the quiz, with each other and then again when they went over quiz material
at the end.
Feedback provided: There was no feedback during the quiz but she
kept a record of what the students said wrong in case they wanted to know
later. Then at the end of the class they
reviewed the quiz material and she went over some common mistakes.
Lesson(s) on teaching
you learned: I learned how to easily
manage an oral quiz and be able to provide feedback for the students.
