Victoria Jones CO #2
Classroom Observation: Hunter Pelt
Date: September 22, 2017
(stayed for first half of Friday class)
Composition 1A
Presentation: The warmup activity
was to describe a picture on the board and journal feelings provoked for the
first ten minutes. Assignments were passed back ungraded so students knew how
they were doing before a test and can work on specific details for the future.
Classroom Management: Hunter
managed the classroom well by using a mixture of materials in the room with
open conversation in the circular classroom style set up.
Materials: Projector,
textbook, journal
Student Participation: He asked a lot of open
ended questions to get the students to participate. Some of them included: What
is a paragraph? Topic sentences? Looking at a paragraph, what is different
about the structure of the sentences?
Feedback Provided: Hunter’s classroom had a
very relaxing atmosphere upon entry. Classical music was playing during their journaling
time and he had brownies for the students.
Lessons on Teaching: Hunter
shared other games such as chain stories, sell me this, or suggestion vs
opinion vs prediction to keep the class engaged during composition time. Overall,
I think Hunter does a great job of providing the students with support and
motivation to keep working towards their goals.
