Tova Ervin CO #3
Date/Time: September 22nd 10:50-12:30
Topic/Skill: Composition Foundations
Teacher Presentation: The students sat around a square table arrangement so they could all see each other, leaving one side empty to see the teacher and the board. Miss Ciapetta stood at the front either writing on the board or typing on the computer.
Classroom Management: The main problem was two students taking phone calls during class. Miss Ciapetta addressed it at the time and again at the end of the class, prompting the students to apologize.
Materials: White board and markers, Computer and projector.
Student Participation: The students were asked to write sentences, define terms, and dictate sentences. Most students participated freely and eagerly. Some students were more quiet, and the teacher made sure to call on them so everyone participated. She also asked the students to write down the notes she typed. She wouldn't let them take pictures during class, forcing them to practice writing. However, at the end of class she let them take pictures, since the notes were essential.
Feedback Provided: Whenever a student said something wrong she would repeat it with a questioning tone, prompting the students to think about their mistake and fix it.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: If you don't have a lesson plan for some reason or the teacher is missing, even a quick simple activity for the students can still turn into a very productive lesson.
