On September 7th, I observed Mr. Wilson's Grammar level four class. As soon as class started, Mr. Wilson wrote the class agenda on the board. I noticed that there was a lot of material that was supposed to be covered for a 50 minute class. Mr. Wilson had a very fast paced but enjoyable class. During the 50 minutes I never saw one student on his or her phone. He started off with a warm-up asking the students to introduce themselves to myself and Connor, who was also observing this day. He asked the students to use the wording "I hope to be" to say what they would like to be doing after their time at CIES, as that was the lesson they were learning that day. Throughout the class Mr.Wilson had the students participating with the entire class and also in small groups. There was one student who participated more than the other students, but Mr. Wilson made sure that students were raising their hands and encouraged all students to talk. The students had books and handouts that they worked out of. Mr. Wilson also had extras that he shared with Connor and I so we could follow along. At one point he had the students partner up and moved a couple of the students around. I asked later why he did that, and he told me that it was because those students have the same first language. Towards the end class, I also noticed that Mr.Wilson did not get to everything on his agenda. I also asked about this, and he said something that I thought was very smart and innovative. He told me that he puts many activities on his agenda, putting the less important ones towards the bottom, because its always better to have too many things to do than not enough.
