Jackie Sirianni - TS #3
September 18th,
4-5 pm.
Location: Starbucks
Topic/Skill: Introductions, Motivations
Fahad and I met during his grammar class when I did my first
classroom observation—we actually ended up partnering in an activity during his
class, so we already spoke a bit about ourselves, but this was our first
official meeting. Fahad is from Kuwait and comes from a very large family. He
rooms with two other students from Kuwait. He’s in the Foundations level for
each topic and has only been in the U.S. for about a month, so communication is
more difficult than my other tutees. He hopes to eventually study business,
either at FSU or in California. While he wasn’t really able to describe what he
finds the most difficult about learning English, we were able to talk about our
basic interests. He forgot his school work, but we did play a few games just to
practice speaking, such as 20 questions and iSpy.
Feedback: Most of the feedback was just through small
corrections while doing each activity like misused vocabulary.
Lessons learned: Although we weren’t able to have as much
conversation as my other tutees, he did know more English than I what gathered
from our short interaction in the classroom.
