Topic/Skill: Speaking
Teacher Presentation: Class began with their daily idiom—“speak
of the devil”. A picture of it was put on the board, and the students had to
guess what it was. Then the instructor acted it out by having a student leave
the classroom for a couple of minutes while talking about her to the class. It
seemed like a really effective way of explaining it.
Classroom Management: I could tell that there were a few students
in this class who were probably often times less on task than they should be. One
of the students didn’t have his presentation ready to present, but the
instructor didn’t bring too much attention to it, moving on and saying they
would speak after class.
Materials: Pronunciation handout, projector, idiom pictures,
whiteboard.
Student Participation: Today the class was watching
presentations from the students, but because there were fewer presentations
than expected, the instructor had them go over a worksheet that they had previously
gotten on pronunciation. They worked on this worksheet in pairs, matching words
based on their vowel sounds.
Feedback Provided: The instructor went over the worksheet
with the class and discussed any differences in answers.
Lessons on Teaching: This was a good example of improvising
lesson plans to fit the needs of the class. Having some sort of backup
assignment would be useful in a situation like this.
