Feedback to the Tutee : This was my first time meeting Mubarak. Mubarak is 18 and had a better understanding of English than my conversation partner. We discussed where we lived in Tallahassee and what we liked to do. Mubarak was concerned about his presentation tomorrow in his level 2 speaking class. He asked me questions that pertained to his presentation. He was not sure how to present in an American style. He told me he has never given a presentation in Kuwait. I told him the basics of a speech (Introduction - body - conclusion). He was also concerned that his partner in the activity did not provide him enough information. I didn't know what to necessarily do about that because he didn't have his rubric with him.
Lessons Learned: I learned that just the simple advice that you give goes a long way. I was giving advice about how to improve english skills with other Americans ( such as playing sports at the IM fields). He was very appreciative about all the advice i was giving to him. I think because we were so similar in age that I had a good influence on him. I  thought the tutoring went well, but I want to hear how his presentation goes so I'll be able to accurately judge how the presentation went.

Date: Oct. 18 Location: Sabal Palm Elementary Topic/Skill: Reading Student: Jaques Kilozo Level: 1st grade For today's session with Jaques, I sat down to help him with a class activity wherein he had to cut out shapes of animals and glue them to a venn diagram stating whether they lived in the water, on land, or both. This was a good chance to work on having him identify things out loud in English, so with each animal I had him tell me out loud the name, and had him repeat it until it was said at a decent volume, as his biggest concern from his teacher is that he doesn't speak much, and when he does, he whispers. Then, did a little listening exercise where I read to him for a little bit until a fire drill cut our session a bit short.

Tutoring Session #11-16 Date: Spring 2018 Topic/Skill: IMC Program At the end of the fall semester, my fall conversation partner Ailin, reached out to me about her acceptance into the IMC Master’s program. I am currently a second semester student in the IMC program. This truly has made this tutoring and conversation partner experience come together because I can now help Ailin apply her English skills to the classroom. For the spring 2018 semester, we both share a Research Methods course. Ailin expressed her anxiety about the lecture style course. Our professor is 70 years old and typically speaks in a lower tone of voice. Additionally, he is from Kentucky and has a relatively strong southern accent. Since the start of the semester I have compared my notes with Ailin’s to fill in any gaps of confusion she may have. Date / Time : 10/23/17  12:15pm Location : CIES Centre Topic / Skill : Writing and preliminary issues to writing Feedback provided to the Tutee : I met Hani while I was eating lunch yesterday at the CIES centre. We struck up a conversation on Tallahassee and then asked if I could possibly answer some questions on writing. He asked what are the best ways to improve his writing and I replied it depended on what specifically he would like to improve. His biggest issues that he was struggling with was the speed of writing and spelling errors. I suggested taking timed writing exercises by which he could practice spelling and writing as quickly as possible. Lessons learned : I learned that our alphabet is truly not as easy as it looks. I never really thought about how hard our alphabet is to understand and to write. I didn't really think about it as well until he handed his phone to me to put in my contact information.
