Ford Brodeur C.O. #2

Date/Time: 9/20/17 1pm-1:50pm
Topic/Skill: Oral Presentations
Teacher Presentation: Mrs. Ciappetta wrote the daily agenda on the computer lab screen for the day. However, students knew that they have a presentation due tomorrow so they already know what the plan was going to be for today.
Classroom Management:   The atmosphere in the classroom was very relaxing. Relaxed in a sense that it had control over the classroom, but yet there was no trouble making students. Mrs. Ciappetta's desk is in a good position to oversee the classroom and potential troublemakers.
Materials: Today's class was held in the computer lab. Students were using computers, their phones (for academic purposes), and their notebooks. Mrs. Ciappetta employed the projector to display instructions.
Student Participation: Students were very active in the lesson. They were roaming the class every now and again in order to receive information from fellow students. Students were also very active in speaking to each other as well. Some students would try to speak in their native languages to each other, but Mrs. Ciappetta would stop them and encourage them to speak English. Dr. Kennell came in to make an announcement on the missing days and all the students seemed very attentive to what he had to say. Very exemplary student behavior in this class.
Feedback Provided: Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I asked Mrs. Ciappetta what would be the best way to evaluate the students in a lesson like this. She informed me of several teaching theories that she uses and one she likes to use the most. Mrs. Ciappetta told me about recasting correction v.s. explicit correction. Mrs. Ciappetta likes to use explicit correction. She said she liked to use this one because it helped to shape the language learner. However, she did stress knowing the relationship of you and the student. Either culturally or a direct one on one relationship.

Questions I asked
1. How are they graded on this ? (the classroom presentation)
- Mrs Ciappetta : I have posted the rubric on online on canvas so they are able to reference it at any time. They know how they are graded and what they should do for a good grade.

2. What is the benefit of teaching class here ? (in the computer lab)
- Mrs. Ciappetta : I am using it to help the students prepare for their presentations.
