Melissa Rueda- CO- #2
Date/Time: September 5th 10:00 AM (Hunter Pelt)
Topic/Skill: Composition (Group 1A)
Teacher Presentation: The warm-up was a timed journal entry, which is usually a fun topic to get the student's juices following. The instructor likes to play soft instrumental music in the background to eliminate the awkward silence and/or block out any noise in the room. The lesson was presented on a PowerPoint. The instructor had the students read the Powerpoint out loud and get up to answer questions on the board. The class moved a little slow, since the students are still not comfortable with their English. The students were given homework that was due by the end of the week.
Classroom Management: The instructor had an "Agenda" written on the board before the students came in. He also had a timeline written, for the class describing all the activity that will be done in within the 50 minutes. Also, sone students came in a few minutes late, the instructor made a point to explain to the students that being late is not an expectable behavior. He also had a vocabulary word on the board. The word was "Hurricane, this was very appropriate for this week. Also, he had a section for "Beautiful Mistakes".
Student Participation: This class was on a foundation level. The student's understanding of English was minimal, so their comfortable level when speaking was not high. This did not stop some of the students.
Feedback Provided: Overall Hunter Pelt has his work cut out for him. Teaching this level is not an easy task. The students are very new to the English language and culture.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: So patiences and repetition is key in this level. Keep the class moving, to ensure that the students are paying attention and engaged.
